Book review: If You Died Tomorrow I Would Eat Your Corpse – Wrath James White

I guess I should’ve known what to expect with this latest collection from Wrath James White having read many of his works in the past. And yet still, I found myself aroused, sickened and at times shocked with the book’s content…in the best possible way, of course ; )

Great cover art, great title, If You Died Tomorrow I Would Eat Your Corpse is not for the squeamish, nor is it for those who dislike explicit descriptions of sex in their horror. Wrath’s latest release goes straight for the throat. It squeezes tightly and refuses to let you draw breath until you turn the final page. There is a rawness about these verses, Wrath is clearly a man with a ravenous sexual appetite and he isn’t afraid to tell you about it. But don’t be lulled into thinking this collection is only for the alpha males, it isn’t. Here, Wrath shares his most intimate and personal moments and often mixes them into a cocktail of horror. The poetry is broken up by two pieces of fiction, but don’t think that these short stories will see Wrath take his foot off the throttle, on the contrary, both stories continue to excite and arouse.

I’ll be surprised if I read anything quite as open and as horrific as this for the remainder of 2018. This collection of poetry and fiction is unrelenting in its delivery and at times deeply personal, as good poetry should, in my opinion. At just over one hours reading, If You Died Tomorrow I Would Eat Your Corpse is the perfect length. It certainly doesn’t outstay its welcome, instead choosing to deliver short, sharp, shocks of poetic horror. Enter if you dare…

Ah, well, I’ll be avoiding this one as I’m one that’s not a fan of sex and horror playing footsie.

    Good review!

The title and the cover are great! The cover is especially great! Very cool! This kind of old school vibe!
The book itself sure does manage to make one intrigued as well… I am all for pushing the boundaries and I have read some unreal/crazy stuff in my life… I’ll have to keep this in mind when I need a book to shake me up a bit! Great review 🙂
