3 new books coming our way from Grey Matter Press!

Well, it seems those fine fellows at Grey Matter Press have a few new releases in the pipeline. Three, in fact! I am not sure on the exact release dates, though I believe July for Secrets of the Weird by Chad Stroup and Seeing Double by Karen Runge, and Before by Paul Kane is also due this year.

To say I am excited for these forthcoming releases is a bit of an understatement. I am a huge fan of this press, and although I am not familiar with the works of Chad Stroup, I really like the sound of Secrets of the Weird. I am already big Paul Kane fan and a lover of Karen Runge’s writing, so I am expecting great things from both of these fine wordsmiths. Here is a little bit about each book to whet the appetite…

Seeing Double is the debut novel from Karen Runge. The cover art from Dean Samed is exquisite and the book is described as “a beautifully evocative and stunningly dark coming-of-age exploration of human sexuality and the roles of masculinity and feminism, polyamorous relationships, social and psychological isolation, and the humiliation of ultimate betrayal.” Count me in for this one! I have read a few of Karen’s short stories and she always delivers. This will be superb. Count on it.

Paul Kane should need no introduction. The man is a prolific writer that operates in the fields of horror and dark fantasy. Before sounds epic in scope and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Described as “the dark fantasy version of Cloud Atlas,” Kane’s Before  is an engaging thrill ride as wide in its scope as it is in its imagination, which seeks to answer some of the greatest questions that haunt mankind: Who are we? Why are we here? And where are we going? I need this book…NOW, DAMN IT!!

I’ve been a fan of Kane for some time. I’ve loved many of his releases, from Sherlock Holmes and the Sevants of Hell, The Rot and Sleeper(s). All are all top quality reads. I am very keen for Before.

Chad Stroup isn’t a name I’m familiar with, but this novel of transformation sounds dark and intriguing. Secrets of the Weird invites readers to “take a remarkable journey that’s equal parts irreverent social commentary, revisionist dystopia, dark fantasy and horrifying reality when you travel to the unforgettable world of Sweetville’s counterculture where a host of sometimes dangerous, often deviant and always dark secrets are waiting to be revealed.

Such secrets refuse to be confined to Sweetville. But instead will come home to live with you. Changing everything.Forever…”
